Do your checking with a flashlight, not matches or candles. If you smell gas open windows and turn off the main valve. Dont turn on lights or appliances until gas dissipates & system is checked. _____ Check all electrical outlets, If electrical wires are shorting out turn off all power _____ Use your extra water or boil all water until you know water is safe _____ Check refrigerator for any spoiled food, make a list of discarded food and give to insurance claims adjuster _____ Photograph all damage prior to clean up _____ Report all damages to insurance company as soon as possible _____ Take any steps you can to protect your home & belongings from further damages like temporary roof repair/coverage, broken windows, fixing holes in siding _____ Dry out or clean anything you can like furniture, clothes (keep all receipts for insurance) _____ Treat for mosquitoes / ants / snakes etc. _____ Call relatives to notify of safe return _____ Remove boards & replace screens |
