La Porte, Texas was founded in 1892 as speculative real estate venture by an investment group. Today, the city's vision is to be recognized as a top municipal corporation in the State of Texas. La Porte TX is oldest incorporated town in East Harris County. The city is located on Galveston Bay, 25 miles from downtown Houston and approximately 20 miles from Galveston. Sylvan Beach became a nationally known tourist destination in the 1930s. Sylvan Beach Park has two sandy shores to call home for the day. The Beach Park has an 1,100 foot pay to fish fishing pier, a skate park and a playground with plenty of things to occupy the kids.
There is plenty of other entertainment and vacation spots. It is located three miles from Bayport Cruise Terminal at the Port of Houston. The Port is home to Princess Cruise lines beautiful ship "The Caribbean Princess". The Houston Yacht Club, known as "the friendliest Yacht club on the Texas Gulf Coast" is less than four miles away. The Houston Yacht Club offers a busy schedule of activities and services all boating interests and age groups. A premiere Baseball complex is home to Pecan Park, featuring ten manicured fields for every age group. The park also offers pristine playground, picnic area, walking trails, covered seating and seven bar-b-Que pits.
